After what seemed like forever, Houston Dynamo 2 pulled out a win in regulation against Minnesota United 2. It was a game that featured goals from Ousmane Sylla, Stephen Annor, and Isaiah Reid. Houston are no longer last in the Western Conference, and with a sizable chunk of the season left, there may yet be hope for a playoff appearance in 2024. Kenny Bundy mentioned before the game that there had been some tweaking to the squad and that we’re “going to see a different team.”

The first goal came from Sylla in the 10th minute, who was able to strike a long shot with enough power and pace to deny the Minnesota goalkeeper a chance to save it. Sylla has now scored four goals in what has been a good campaign from the Mac Hermann Trophy winner.

Not much happened for the rest of the half, but in the 51st minute, Stephen Annor was able to double the lead for Houston. After Minnesota provided the ball via a turnover, Diego Gonzalez found the recent Dynamo draft pick inside the box.

Minnesota made things close after Houston gave away the ball thanks to an unlucky deflection. Tensions were heightened afterwards due to the Dynamo’s reputation of capitulating in the second half.

This time around, there would be no second half collapse. Houston wrapped up the match thanks to an 83rd minute goal from Isaiah Reid. Sebastian Rodriguez was credited with the assist, but most of the work was done by Reid, who created some space inside the box to get the angle just right on the shot.

Kenny Bundy’s team will now travel to California in order to complete this two-match road drip. Afterwards, they will once again play at home against Austin FC II. Tickets to the match at SaberCats Stadium are free and available at the link posted below:
