Houston Dynamo 2 finally returned home after a long road trip, and they gave the home crowd a nice treat with a win against St. Louis City 2. It was also the first clean sheet for the team in 2024, which was one of the key takeaways for Kenny Bundy in the post game press conference.
The game started off with both sides playing attacking football; quality chances were hard to come by for either side.
In the 12th minute, however, Exon Arzu opened the scoring after an incredible run and dribble from Ifu Achara.
Shortly after, Kieran Sargeant delivered a beautiful ball into the box, but Houston wasn’t able to capitalize and score.
In the 33rd minute, Becher had an open shot, but it was off target and didn’t pose any threat for Xavier Valdez.
In the 34th minute, St. Louis was awarded a dangerous free kick, but they weren’t able to do anything with it. A couple of sequences later, Valdez made a key save in a 1v1 situation.
The game resumed with a back-and-forth mentality which meant that the Dynamo would need a second goal if they truly wanted to finish this team off.
In the 38th minute, Diego Gonzalez’s shot from a set piece was blocked by Nicholas Bishop. This attempt was the first out of many set pieces that the Dynamo would take in the following minute.
In the 42nd minute, Femi Awodesu came up with a key block to deny St. Louis a clear goal opportunity.
To start off the second half, Brooklyn Raines had a long shot in the 49th minute to keep the visitors honest.
In the 63rd minute, Maddox Finlay found the back of the net after some madness happened inside of the box. For the first time this year, it felt like Kenny Bundy’s side was dominating the game and were being rewarded for it.
In stoppage time, Xavier Valdez made another save in close proximity; he was very good in his first clean sheet of the season.
The game ended with a final score of 2-0, which marked Houston’s second consecutive win in MLS NEXT Pro play. Kenny Bundy was a happy man in his post-game conference, highlighting how his team is a nice blend of international talent and homegrown guys.
Dynamo 2 will play once again at home against Tacoma Defiance on May 26. Tickets are free and available down below (parking not included):
