Dallas Trinity FC welcome European giants FC Barcelona to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas
10/18/24 • 119 Views
FC Barcelona Femení showed why they are considered to be the best women’s team in the
world against Dallas Trinity FC, who were playing in their first ever home match and second
match overall. It was a rapid barrage of goals from Clàudia Pina, Emilia Szymczak, Patricia
Guijarro, and Kika Nazareth that sealed a win for the Catalans before the halftime whistle.
In the second half, Dallas Trinity FC showed some more fight compared to the opening 45
minutes, but Barcelona’s quality was very apparent, as they would consistently find space
against the opposition’s low block. Overall, this match was a fun affair to watch for the 5,387
fans in attendance, the majority rooting for Barcelona.
This game, however, is more of a statement than it is a poor result for Dallas Trinity FC, who
have started a new era of professional soccer for the town of Dallas, with all their home games
being hosted at the historic Cotton Bowl stadium. After the match, cheers started to run rampant
for both sides knowing that history was taking place.
For Barcelona, this was their last match on their U.S.A tour, and the showing of support
throughout the United States was evident to the players.
“It (is) amazing to see all the support that we get around the world,” Barcelona fullback Ona
Batlle said to the press after the game. “I think it's (an) incredible (experience for) all the players
that we have with us.”
For Dallas Trinity, this loss shouldn’t be looked at too seriously, as it is obvious that they are at a
level below Barcelona. In fact, they can take pride in the fact that they were able to bring such a
historic side to their stadium. They will now pivot their priorities to the USL Super League.
“Overall, the city of Dallas won tonight, Dallas Trinity FC won tonight and everybody won
tonight,” General Manager/Acting Head Coach Chris Petrucelli said.
