Just as we thought the Republic were going back to their usual ways, Oakland comes into town and drops another loss on the Republic. Oakland went up 3 goals and it took some late heroics from Cristian Parano and Trevor Amann to make the score look respectable. But Oakland was clearly the better side for a majority of the match.

Oakland Roots came into this match on the outside of the playoff line, in 9th place. However, they were also riding a relative hot streak, winning 3 of their last 4 matches. This includes their last game being a 1-0 win over a Tampa Bay side Sacramento just failed to beat. Oakland were also determined to get a win in this derby matc h seeing the last win Oakland got over Sacramento came during the 2021 season.

Sacramento returned to winning ways, with a 2-0 win over Monterey in their last match. Goals were supplied by Kieran Phillips and Cristian Parano on the night. And the addition of Justin Portillo looks to have re-solidified their midfield. Sacramento had gone unbeaten against Oakland over their previous 6 contests with the last match being a 1-0 win in favor of Sacramento. Sebastian Herrera was the early goal scorer on that night.
