It took more than a decade, but Harry Kane has finally won his first major trophy!

Harry Kane is one of the greatest strikers of this generation, but for most of his career, his lack of trophies has been what most casual fans know about the English striker. When he joined Bayern Munich in the 2023-2024 season, the “Kane Curse” gained even more notoriety as the perennial Bundesliga favorites lost the league to Bayer Leverkusen.
This year, Harry Kane was vital to his team’s success, scoring 24 goals in 29 league matches while also notching nine assists up to this point. If Bayern were still in the UEFA Champions League knockouts, Kane would most likely be a Ballon d’Or candidate!
I’m not going to deny that winning trophies is a sign of a great footballer, but in the case of Harry Kane, the lack of trophies has led to a massive understating of his football ability. Kane is England’s all-time leader in goals at the international level and is also second in the Premier League’s all-time scoring list. Only Mohammed Salah, who recently drew comparisons with Thierry Henry, has the potential to surpass Kane.
Harry Kane has spent most of his career with Tottenham, and funnily enough, his rough patch of trophies has aligned with Tottenham’s lack of a trophy since 2008 (although that streak could end very soon).
Is Harry Kane to blame for Tottenham’s misfortunes? Sadly, one could build an argument for or against this subject. If this season has taught me anything, however, it’s that Harry Kane was the victim of some horrible luck. Several finals have not gone his way at the international and domestic level, and he just had to play in the most competitive league in the world for the majority of his career. Harry Kane is a top player that deserves a top club that consistently wins trophies. With Bayern, Kane has finally put to rest the doubts surrounding him. He can win trophies, and if anything, he deserved to win many more.
Let his story serve as a reminder for all of us: A player's quality isn't just defined by the amount of trophies they recieved. Trophies can be a key performance indicator, but they aren't the only one. When we lose sight of this reality, we forget the true essense of the beautiful game.
