Momentum for Dynamo 2 shifts as they continue late push to playoffs.

As we enter the last matches of the MLS NEXT Pro season, Houston finds themselves in an interesting situation. They’ve made a dramatic climb up the standings as of late, but we still don’t know if it will be enough. This loss against North Texas definitely doesn’t help them in their quest to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season.
This game didn’t start off well for DynaDos. In the ninth minute, North Texas found their first goal of the matchup. Their goalkeeper played a great ball forward, and the ensuing shot deflected off Xavier Valdez and into the back of the next. The rest of the first half was a tug of war between two sides desperate for opportunities.
It would take until the 48th minute for North Texas to find a second thanks to Pedro Fonseca. For Houston, their only goal of the matchup came thanks to Sebastian Rodriguez, who scored a slick chip shot over the goalkeeper that confused everyone.
Unfortunately for DynaDos, that would be one of the few positives that would come out of this game. North Texas was much more efficient in front of goal, and they exposed some of Houston’s positioning in the second half. Matters didn’t improve when Diego Gonzalez received his second yellow card of the game in the dying moments of the match, leaving the Dynamo with 10 men on the field. I’m sure Kenny Bundy will use this match as a learning experience for the young guys as they still have a chance of making the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs
Their next match will be at home against Minnesota United FC 2, and for this young squad, the time is now if they want to qualify for the playoffs. This is a must-win game for Houston, so I suggest everyone go to SaberCats Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 21 and show the reserve team some support!
