According to Tom Bogert, the Dynamo are finalizing a deal for Ezequiel Ponce, an Argentinian striker from AEK Athens. It has been reported for weeks that the Dynamo were looking for a DP option up top, and it seems like Pat Onstad finally delivered.

Automatically, this signing could spell the end for Sebastian Ferreira’s time here in Houston. The Paraguayan striker has been out injured for the majority of the year, and it seems like the club have reached the end of their rope with him.

It will be interesting to see how players such as Aliyu and Kowalzcyk adapt to having an actual goal threat on their squad. I believe both of those players can excel as complimentary players to an actual attacker.

However, it seems like Houston isn’t done. Sources tell me that Pat Onstad and company are still shopping for further attacking help, including some talented youth players from the South American region, which they’ve already signed some Dynamo 2 players from.

Signing Ponce for a multi-million dollar fee also makes it seem like Coco Carrasquilla could be sold soon to recuperate some funds. The Panamanian has played well but European clubs are once again vying for his signature.

However, the main story now is that Houston finally got their starting striker. Ben Olsen now has a lot of weapons to use on offense and perhaps the addition of Ponce helps raise the floor of the team’s offensive capabilities.

Ponce has played UEFA Champions League matches and has been a bit of a journeyman, traveling and playing for teams in France, Spain, and Greece.

This season, Ponce broke out for AEK Athens, scoring 15 goals in 38 matches, including one goal in the UEFA Europa League. According to FootyStats, Ponce was in the 99th percentile for players in the Greek Super League with 0.86 goals per 90.
